Abstract
The carcinoid tumor of appendix is relatively rare neoplasm originated in Kultschitsky's cells normally located at the base of Lieberkuhn' gland, and is generally accepted as being the most common gastrointestinal carcinoid. Gastrointestinal
carcinoids
appeear with equal Frequency among men and women, most often during the fifth and sixth decades. However, appendiceal carcinoids tend to occur more frequently in women and at a younger average age because the vast majorith of appendiceal
carcinoids
are
asymptomatic and these are mainly detected by incidental appendectomy to pelvic and gall bladder surgery. In comparisons of 5-year relative survival rates by site, the appendix is highest rate because it generally is small, and distant metastasis
is
rare. Simple appendectomy is adequate treatment for the patient with an appendiceal carcinoid and no gross evidence of metastasis.
We present a case of carcinoid tumor of the appendix detected by incidental appendectomy in a 45 year old women with uterine myoma.
